特許明細書には、次の例のように「前記複数の～のうち、」という表現が非常によく使われます。
| 前記複数の脚部のうち、前記平面の右前部に設けられた脚部には、その軸長方向に伸びる溝部が設けられている。 |
「～のうち、」の英訳方法としてもっとも一般的なのが、amongを使って次のように表現する方法です。
| among the plurality of legs, a leg provided at a right front portion of the flat surface has a groove extending in an axial direction of the leg. |
この英訳例は、十分に分かりやすいと思われますが、次の方が好まれることがあります（実務家によって次のように書き直されたことがあります）。
| a leg, among the plurality of legs, that is provided at a right front portion of the flat surface has a groove extending in an axial direction of the leg. |
また、次のように複数のthat節を使って表現する方法もあり、あまりスマートな表現ではないですが、場合によっては有益と思われます。
| a leg that is among the plurality of legs and that is provided at a right front portion of the flat surface has a groove extending in an axial direction of the leg. |
これに似た表現として、「前記複数の～」を主語にして次のように表現することも考えられます。
| the plurality of legs include a leg that is provided at a right front portion of the flat surface and that has a groove extending in an axial direction of the leg. |
なお、「前記複数の～のうち、」に似た表現として「前記すべての～のうち、」という表現がありますが、これを"of all"を使って次のように表現したクレームについて、冒頭の"of all the plurality of legs,"の意味が分からないと指摘しているオフィスアクションを見たことがあります。
