「否認」を表す特許・法律表現として、traverseという表現があります。traverseは、次のMPEP§818.01からの引用文のように、審査官の限定要求を「否認」する際に使われるのが一般的です（限定要求：一出願中に２つ以上の独立した区別可能な発明が含まれている場合に、審査官が出願人に発明を選択するよう要求すること。37 CFR §1.142(a)）。

また、同じくMPEP§818.01において、traverseは限定要求への否認であることが定義されています。

このように、traverseは限定要求への否認の意味で使用し、限定要求以外の文脈では使用しない方がいいと思われます。
以前、現地代理人への指示書において、traverseが拒絶理由への「反論」の意味として使われているのを見たことがあります。具体的には、102条に関する拒絶理由の文脈で、指示書に"Please traverse the 102 rejection"のように書かれていました。上記定義を考慮して、ここは"Please argue against the 102 rejection"などにした方がいいかもしれません。
